I haven’t gone shopping and bought things for myself in quite a while. A little bit of money tossed my way for my birthday (yes, it was yesterday, no, I don’t expect anyone to care), and a bit more from tax returns, and a need for some decent work-appropriate-wear sent me out searching for nice things. Hopefully things that despite being cheap, will last me a while.
Wide-leg jeans to counteract the prevalence of skinny ones (and I think they’re more flattering to my shape anyway). Another American Apparel insanely comfortable jersey pencil skirt. Cute button-downs and cardigans, and the first real-honest-to-god pair of shorts I’ve bought in over ten years. Not knee-length shorts, but actual shorts.
(I may or may not have been inspired to buy them by a lovely compliment paid to my stair-toned legs this morning.)
And Nick Cave, and two books that I’ve been meaning to read and will actually have time for this summer, Free Food for Millionaires and The Savage Detectives.
Now I’m watching a DVD of Gormenghast, a BBC miniseries starring the luscious Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. That boy could probably inspire impure thoughts in the straightest of straight boys–though none of them would admit it. I can’t say that I’m that excited about this series, though. I’m more inspired to buy the first season of The Tudors on DVD and find a damn friend with Showtime to let me come watch the second, already.
So yes, I sure do like pretty things.
